Miss Manners

Rob was playing with Melody and they were "being" little construction workers. Rob says, "Thank you Workman". Melody replies, "You're pleasure!"

Bilingual just like Papa!

It's a running joke in my family about my father's (aka Papa) ability to understand and speak foreign languages. He passed Spanish in High School because the teacher feared having him in her class again. For all of the amazing things he knows and is capable of, languages is just not one of them. Especially Spanish, although I guess that's the only one he ever tried.
Melody was holding a Papa Juice (a Capri Sun that my father always has around for the kids, hence the name). She holds up her Papa Juice and says, "Papa Juice. That's how you say it in Spanish". Well Melody, that's probably exactly how Papa would say it in Spanish!

I've failed....

It would seem that I am now on the every 2-3 month schedule of downloading my pictures. There have been so many fun things that we have done, and they are all sitting in my camera. I do promise there will be many postings to come, with pictures instead of just words, so hang in there. I will try to make a New Year's resolution to get the pictures off of my camera at least every month. If I start now, I may just remember by New Year's!

For life, liberty, and the pursuit of toast

We went to the Statue of Liberty this weekend. I'll post pictures when I have more time. We had a ton of fun and Melody really seemed to get a lot out of it. So tonight we were talking about it to see what she remembered. We asked her what the statue was holding in her hand. She said 'a book'. We then asked what she was holding in her other hand. She replies, 'toast'.

What's in a name?

We were asking Melody what her middle name was. She kept saying "Jackson" (because she knows that comes after Melody). To try and clear it up a little bit we tell her that I use her middle name when I'm mad, so we then asked her "What does Mommy say after Melody when she's angry?" She puts up her little pointing finger and says, "Dawn NO!" So, if you ask Melody what her middle name is, it would be Dawn No.

The forgotten puppets

I've mentioned a few times how Melody is OCD. I usually preface that with "a little", but she tends to be more like "a lot". When she just turned 2, she became completely obsessed with puppets. It was very cute to watch as she would put them on her hands, have them talk to each other, make some out of socks, and I even found her with magic marker caps on her fingers using them as puppets. The problems started with it being summer, and 3 hours of keeping a puppet on your hand got kind of gross. I had to vacuum with puppets on my hands. I had to get her lunch ready with puppets on my hands. There was even a bath puppet that had to be worn for bath time (although it did not keep her from crying and screaming in the tub, it just made more tolerable screams). If you were to ever take the puppets off your hands, even if you thought she wasn't watching, you would immediately hear, "Mommy! Puppets... hands!!"
So I did what every modern Mom would do. I waited until nap time and hid them. It was mostly out of sight, out of mind. She still used the magic marker caps, and socks on occasion, but the obsession seemed to die down. Today I was doing a complete overhaul of my closet in the spare room, getting the room ready to become Melody's new room, when I found the box of puppets. I couldn't help but giggle, then remember how annoyed I was wearing the puppets, then get sad to realize that is such a strong memory, yet it was a whole year ago. Now I'm trying to remember if there's anything else that I've hidden from her that I'm going to find someday!
