Tuckers

Every night when I get Melody ready for bed, I ask her if she wants to be tucked in under the covers. Some nights she wants covers, some nights she doesn't. (the nights she doesn't we usually go in and put them on after she's asleep). I guess she hears things in her own unique way, because tonight she told me she "didn't want any tuckers."

GOAL!!

So I was walking with Melody thru Stew Leonard's today past the Lighthouse and onto Clover the Cow. As we round the corner to get to the Dairy section the lighthouse sounds it foghorn.
I hear Melly start singing Goal!!... Goal!!... Goal!!... the song the Rangers play at MSG when they score a goal. I was quite happy. Especially because I don't know when the last time she heard the song since it seems like the Rangers have not scored a goal this month.

Nana & Grampa

Time for a visit from Nana & Grampa! Rob tells Melody a few days before they're due to arrive that they're coming. Melly keeps looking at Rob, and telling him "Nooooooo, they're not coming here". For some reason she didn't believe him. The night before we tell her again, and she still does not believe us.
So now it's the morning that they're coming. She wakes up and magically believes Nana & Grampa are coming to visit, but doesn't understand why they're not here waiting for her to wake up. So we explain that they're coming later in the day and we go about our morning.
I do some last minute straightening up, knowing that we should expect my in laws around 3:00. At 11:30, I jump in the shower. No sooner do I get my hair full of shampoo, when Melody runs into the bathroom yelling, "They're here! They're here! I see Nana & Grampa!" My heart skips a beat, I mutter a few words under my breath to the tune of why didn't I shower first this morning and then straighten up. I tell Melly to yell at them through the window on the door that I'll be out in a minute. She runs off yelling to Nana & Grampa. I very hastily finish my shower and run out of the bathroom in my bathrobe to offer full apologies for making them wait outside for the 3 minutes it took me to finish a shower that was meant to be a full 10. I find.... no one. I ask Melly where they were, and she said, ever so sweetly, "Oh, I was just pretending".

Grammar of a toddler

After I thought I heard Melody call me from the other room, I asked her what she needed:
"I don't have nothing to say to you right now Mom."

After I told her she couldn't have chocolate before dinner:
"You broken my feelings."

The time out

Melody was being 2 1/2 one evening at dinner. She (as usual) ate 2 bites of food and was finished. Rob & I were not. So we sent her off to play while we stayed at the table to eat. Apparently she did not approve of our "adult" conversation we were having in her absence, so she started acting up. She eventually got really bent out of shape over the lack of attention towards her, and she hit me. This isn't something she usually does, and we have a zero tolerance for hitting in our family, so off to time out she goes. She was clearly trying to get attention, so she wasn't sorry about what she did, which resulted in the following:
"Hey you, Mommy! That's not nice. Moooommmmmmmy! Yoo-hoo! That's not fair! Mooooommmmmmmyyyyyyyyy? Yoo-hoo? Hey you!"
Which lasted for the duration of time out. She still said she was sorry, and gave hugs when time out was over, and she never seemed to notice the smiles and laughing Rob & I did while she was in time out.

It's such a long drive...

Melly does really well in the car to VA, but it is very long. Apparently when we're in the car and she gets anxious to get out, I say, "We're almost there". During our drive, she asks ever so sweetly, "Mommy, are we we're almost there yet?"

Melly's VA BFF

Melody loves to play with Jordan who lives across the street from Nana & Grampa. She's a big girl and goes to school now, so Melody can only play with her on the weekends when we visit. Poor Jordan came over to play the same day that ALL the cousins were over. Hey, what's one more kid when there are already 6 running around? Nana's going to have to get a bigger playroom!

Jockey's Ridge

So the first weekend we were in VA, we went to Jockey's Ridge, NC. It's a bit of a drive, but it's well worth it. For those that don't know, it's historically the place where the Wright Brothers took their first flight. With a toddler, it's a giant sand dune that is hours of entertainment. Oh, and by giant, I mean extreme. Obviously big enough for the Wright Brothers to fly a small airplane. Anyway, it was a beautiful day, and the only warm day we had while we were there. Although we were in the South, it was the coldest it had been in years. The rest of our visit the temperature never got above 40. I guess we shouldn't complain, because the temp at home never got above 10!

The big Jackson Family Reunion

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. I've been slacking! The good news is I've been getting a lot done on my "to do" list. Sadly, blogging wasn't high on the list. I've gotten some complaints, so I am sorry! Good to know there are people reading though.
So, the biggest missed event which started the lack of blogs was our trip to VA. Rob's band (Limelight) had a couple of shows in VA, conveniently near his parents house. So we decided to make his gigs into a mini vacation. Once we decided to do that, Rob and Grampa made arrangements to have Gigi & Grandad come up from FL too. It was Grandad's 90th (I mean 39th) birthday, so we should celebrate. It didn't stop there. Mike & Lisa, with Danny & Jason, and then Billy & Joanna with Billy, Camden & Faith came down also. It was a big ol' Jackson family reunion. The only Jackson's that weren't there were Rick & Bonnie, but we're trying to photoshop them into the picture. Maybe we can have them peeking in the windows or something. Anyway, here's the picture!

Where have I been??

OK, so thank you all that haven't deleted our blog from your favorites yet. I realize it has been such a very long time since I posted, and I apologize! Now, why has it been so long? Well, we took a week and a half vacation to VA to visit Nana & Grampa, then on our return for the next week I had 2 funerals to attend to, and a husband with the flu. Because of that, I am delayed with everything. My blog, my house, my to do list, my stamping, etc. So, I will slowly start catching up, because there is so much to cover. There is the happy, the fun, and even the sad. So hang in there!
