Crayola Factory

So, I'm one of those people that has 3 months worth of pictures stored in the camera, then when I finally upload them I have hundreds of pictures. That is why our fun and exciting trip to the Crayola Factory from February, is just now making it to the blog. Sad, huh?
I wish I could remember all the fun things we did, or a little humorous anecdote that happened, but I just have no idea. Here's some pictures though!
I do know that it's a great place to go with the kids, because there are so many hands on Crayola products for them to play with, along with different learning stations. There's also a Canal Museum in the same building where the kids can learn all about the Locke's and canals. We went kind of last minute, but we were able to drag Papa and Claire with us too. These pictures show Melody and Claire coloring their stuffed lizards with fabric markers. We allowed Melly to name them, and she came up with Demdi and Ding Ding. Don't ask me how or why, but that's what she named them!

Here's Papa and Melody making a snake out of the Model Magic.

Such drama

There are many posts, and will be many more about Melody and her dramatic ways. This is just one example.

We were playing with her Mardi Gras beads, which she loves, and they often get tangled. She asks me, in a very exaggerated way, "Mommy, can you untangle my beads so I can make the most phenomenal thing in the whole world?!?!"

Don't ask me how she knows the word phenomenal. I certainly don't use it that much. Who am I kidding... I can't even spell it! I had to use spell check!

Dowie and David

The other day Melody started "talking" to Dowie (pronounced dough-ee). Yup... her imaginary friend. She tells me she met him at the playground and he sometimes plays with her at home too. She will talk for him, and hold complete conversations with him. Then there's David. Her other imaginary friend. He doesn't play around the house, because he goes to work every day. He coincidentally has the same hours as Rob, but he doesn't work with him. Can I just say how cute it is to watch her talking to herself, having full detailed scenarios of events, and how "they" work out the problems a 3 year old face. It's even extra funny when she has an argument or disagrees with Dowie! I'll try to catch some of it on film.

Personal Ad

Loving mother seeking sweet adorable blond girl. Currently have a little demon where once a cute little girl used to be. Must be under 2 3/4 years of age, since that is apparently the age in which the return policy is up on children, and everything starts breaking down. The child I'm looking for must NOT hit, throw toys, pull Mommy's hair, scream "NO" or "GO AWAY", throw dirt, go limp when getting picked up, or kick you in the stomach once you finally get a grip on her. The child should also ask for things needed, instead of screaming them across the house as a command. It would be nice if she would eat food, of any kind, but that will not be a deal breaker.

Please contact me if anyone has any information about this kind of child.

Lookout Popeye

The struggle with getting Melody to eat any food, let alone a health variety, is always present in our house. So I tell Melly, "you have to eat so you can grow up big and strong." She gets that look on her face and says, "But Mommy, I'm already big and strong. Look at my muscles!"
If only Kit Kat's were a food group...

I guess Earth Day is coming?

Melody was gathering some buckets from around the house, and lining them up. She then looked at me a little confused and said, "Mommy, I can't find my compost and I have to do my recycle."

Every girl deserves a manicure

My sister was over last week and we were stamping Emilie's 1st birthday invitations. I know, hard to believe that she's going to be 1 already! So we were pretty preoccupied, and Melody did well playing by herself. It came to be nap time, and I explained to Melody that I couldn't read her a story because I had to help finish the invitations. I asked her if she would be able to play by herself in her room and fall asleep on her own. She said she could, and she's actually done this a few times before. One time she never took a nap, she just lay in her bed for a couple of hours "reading" one of her books.
About 20 minutes go by and I hear her calling, "Mommy! Mommy! Come look and see what I did!!!!" I thought she fell asleep, so I go in there to find that she decided to give herself a manicure. She painted her fingers (not just the nails), meticulously, for the entire time she was in her room. Now here's the good part. I didn't want to yell at her, because she was so very proud of herself, but clearly this is not something I want her to do again. So I calmly explain that she did a very nice job, but she should never paint her nails without Mommy around. I then send her to go see Carol so that she can get a good laugh at it. I then examine Melody's room, looking for the giant pink puddle of nail polish that I know is around somewhere... only I can't find it. I call Melody back in to show me where she painted her nails. She brings me over to her bed. I think to myself, "Oh no... not nail polish all in her comforter and sheets, pillows, stuffed animals, etc..." But I can't find any polish around. I ask her a few more times, and she says to me, "Mommy, I spilled some by accident." I ask, somewhat scared, "Where?" She shows me the 2 little drops on the sheet, no bigger than a pinpoint. So then I ask her where the polish is now. This 2 1/2 year old girl (that isn't very girlie), took out her nail polish, opened it up, took the time to neatly paint her fingernails (and fingers), kept putting the polish brush back in the jar to get more, then when she was all done put the cap back on and put the jar away. All without spilling any, or getting any nail polish all over the room? Wow did I ever dodge a bullet with that one!

Of course I take a picture first and then clean the poor kid up! But look how pleased she is, and trying really hard not "mess up" her nails!
